CRACK CLOTHES

The mere thought of Amy Winehouse designing a clothing line is pure horror. When I think of Amy Winehouse and fashion I visualize a frizzy beehive, smudged eyeliner, bloody ballet shoes, and a crack pipe. It's sad, but it's also true.

She's managed to coerce Fred Perry to create her own 17 piece clothing line. “Amy has been wearing Fred Perry for years, so we were aware she was a genuine fan of the brand,” said Red Perry marketing direction, Richard Martin. “Amy has a unique sense of style that reflects the brand’s own historical reference points.” Amy's line is somewhat conservative; consisting of polo shirts, argyle, and skirts. The colour palette is minimal; blacks, pinks and greys.

Is Amy Winehouse truly capable of concentrating on anything for more than a minute? Apparently...according to Martin. “We had three major design meetings where she was closely involved in product style selection and the application of fabric, color and styling details...Amy gave crucial input on proportion, color and fit,” Martin said. “The range clearly has Amy’s handwriting.”

The collection will retail between $32 and $150 and will continue for four seasons. It will be sold at Fred Perry Authentic boutiques as well as a few select wholesalers.

I think Amy should put down the sketch pad and pick up the microphone.
