Fall Trend Alert: The Grey Suit!

Fall is around the corner and looking back to fall fashion week and the trends of Toronto, grey suits are carrying over. In spring of this year we saw many designers show a classic three piece suit featuring plaid and angular patterns; this fall we will be wearing a solid coloured grey. The grey suit is a perfect way for men to transition into this fall; the now solid coloured suit allows men to team them with oxford shirts in deep purples and paisley prints. Additionally, men can accessorize with croc leather bags and textured shoes. The amazingly talented Marc Jacobs in signature fashion has taken this fall’s must have suit and featured the masculine broad shoulders teaming it with skinny cropped and cuffed dress pants. Again in true Marc fashion, this suit worn with boots is perfect for any fashion forward male. Catering to a more business clientele the grey suit can be found teamed with straight and relaxed cut pants by suit veterans Ralph Lauren and Versace. Men looking for a new grey suit should as always avoid pleated slacks; unlike our female counterparts the waist high wide leg dress pant is another red flag. Designer Giorgio Armani took the purple we are seeing everywhere for fall and did metallic dress pants with grey blazers for those daring enough to sport this style. Featured on the cover of Russia’s current GQ Style is a grey suit with a two toned collar further, teen heartthrob Nick Jonas is sporting an almost identical grey suit on the cover of the new Jonas Brothers album, A Little Bit Longer. With September fast approaching, wearing a navy or royal blue oxford shirt is the perfect way to start this trend.

Shoe maker passes away

One of the most memorable things about back to school shopping as a small boy was heading to Bata Shoe store. The stores are long gone and now so is one of the Bata family members, Thomas George Bata. Thomas was the son of the founder Tomas who was a ninth generation cobbler. At one time Bata Shoes was one of the largest shoe manufactures on the planet. In 1985 it manufactured in 61 countries, operated 92 plants and 6000 retail stores, and sold through 100 000 merchants in 115 countries. Bata Shoe Organization has sold more than 14 billion pairs of shoes - greater than the number of pairs of human feet that have walked the earth. Today Batas largest Canadian public presence is the shoe museum Located on Bloor Street, Toronto, and designed by Roy Moriyama.

Real Men Love Steel and We Love Them in It

Iconic underwear designer Calvin Klein strikes steel! Since the release of the steel line the collection has been hugely successful exceeding all sales expectations. When the line was initially launched Calvin Klein stores were instantly sold out and the demand has only grown since their launch about a year ago. Steel is available in either cotton or microfiber. The cotton blend of 94% cotton and 6% spandex comes in classic white and black in addition to a range of fashion colours such as blue and red. The microfiber is a blend of 87% Tactel (R) nylon and 13% spandex. Both feature enhanced body definition and shape retention. The success of the low-rise form fitting underwear coincides with fashions trend towards fitted dress pants and skinny jeans. All men, city and suburban have taken to this latest underwear craze. Have you?

Chic Transitions c/o Fashion Crimes

While venturing out onto Queen Street to find some hot summer sales, our intern Elena found a goldmine of lovely dresses at one of our favourite Queen West stores, Fashion Crimes. Although the summer will unfortunately soon be coming a close, there's no reason not to stock up on some cute dresses and wear them into the cooler months.

Our friends over at Fashion Crimes were sweet enough to lend us a couple lovely dresses, jewelry, and killer biker gloves for today's edition of our Daily Thread. Pictured below, our model Karen is wearing a Fashion Crimes pretty purple floral dress, but we've paired it up with some edgy booties and legwarmers, as well as a warm leather jacket and some biker gloves. Rock this look out with tights in the evening. Here, the shapes and textures juxtaposed are so right.
Karen also sports a darker and edgier night-time dress with a chic headpiece, both from Fashion Crimes, and paired it this time with some new and hot lace up booties from H&M and her own fishnets. If you're into this look but want to be a little warmer, don't be afraid to layer some heavy knits for some variation in texture or a bomber jacket for a sleek yet cozy feel.

Hurry over to Fashion Crimes and take advantage of some of their great summer/fall transition pieces, and don't forget to check out their year-round-worthy accessories as well! The sale ends soon so get going!

Hot to Trot!

While it seems like just days ago that we were reporting that gladiator sandals were hot hot hot for summer, in reality a new season is upon us and therefore, gorgeous new footwear. As we sadly part way with our gladiators (sandals with socks, anyone?). thankfully we can look forward to a great new shoe collection on the horizon for the season. While we always believe in classics (the flip flop is to summer what the riding boot is to fall), some new and improved shapes and taking the stage and will be rocking the falling leaves shortly. Warning: these shoes are not for the faint of heart.

A personal favourite here at FABRIC Magazine for the chic and cheeky is the new Michael Kors Berkeley heels. These gorgeous zip-up 4" heels are a perfect transition piece; wear them with your skinny jeans and subdued blouse for the last hurrah of summer, and when it gets chillier, pair it with leggings and a flirty fall skirt, or rock it out with a biker jacket. As soon as we saw these heels on the Michael Kors website, we knew we had to have them. Although they are selling like hot cakes, check out Brown's, Capezio, Icon, B/2, or the Michael Kors store if you want a piece of the hottest shoes for the fall. They go for $158.

As much as we'd love to wear our gladiator inspired heels well into the cool months, winter (and thus, snow) is a harsh reality of our climate. Hence, the bootie.

The bootie is a boot meets shoe style that has been in evolution for years. What we particular love about booties these days are the little details that pull them apart from the masses. While it's always safe and sexy to go for a black closed-toe bootie, we suggest straying from the pack and trying a peep-toe, or something with a little detailling; zippers, buckles, straps, studs, textured leather - we love 'em all. Below are a couple of pairs we are creeping on from Nine West this season, but shop around soon because the bootie call won't last forever!
