YSL Art for Sale!

After legendary designer Yves Saint Laurent's passing this past June, many of his designs have become the most sought-after pieces in the industry. While many fashionistas are running as fast as their Louboutins can take them to get their hands on some vintage YSL. Apparently, the YSL estate is now planning to auction off Saint Laurent's multi-million dollar, hundreds-upon-hundreds piece art collection early next year. It has been said that some proceeds of this auction will go to AIDS research. In a media release to the public, an art dealer commented that YSL needed art like water. Saint Laurent's collection included Picasso and Matisse to name a couple. We're sure that this auction will cause a ton of media coverage, so stay tuned for more updates on this story.

Beauty Tames the Beast

Ever since the 'Brigitte Bardot' look was seemingly massacred by Amy Whinehouse, damage control has been underway as designers commit to repairing the havock wrecked to the smokey eye since the rehab favourite began appearing in OKs across the globe. Lavin at Paris Fashion week and Donatella Versace at Milan Fashion week kept Amy's infamous thick-as-tar eyeliner, but chose to nip the cat-eye-strophy in the butt. Simply said, they popped a thick zebra stripe on each eyelid and left the rest of the face clean and understated. This modern eye has saved us all from having to drag a greasy eyeliner pencil all over our temples for the next few years. The twist on the Bardot is not only a more toned down version from the Whinehouse look, but also compliments what is coming up this spring in terms of bright solid colours as Lavin's show proved. Though this may seem at first a bit 80s for your taste, especially for your 9-5 purposes, Versace helps us understand that the look can also be juxtaposed with grecian inspired chiffon to create a softer image. As a result, the New Bardot is the way to wear your eyes this upcoming season - day or night. They say that the eyes are the window to your soul. Consider this exquisite drapery.

Jessica Stam: Lovely Inside and Out

Supermodel Jessica Stam really does seem to have it all going on. Beyond being one of the top 15 highest paid models in the world, this Canadian pretty face's gorgeous Manhattan East-Side apartment is featured in this month's Elle Decor. As if posing in Christian Dior, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, and Prada ad campaigns (to name a few), walking the runway Victoria Secret fashion shows, as well as having one of the most sought-after handbags, the Marc Jacobs Stam, isn't enough, this 22 year old stunner also has one of the most gorgeous (and purple!) apartments we've ever seen. Oh, and by the way, she also has her pilot's license. Martha Stewart, eat your heart out!

Stella McCartney for Adidas Spring Summer '09

Stella McCartney's done it again! Stella McCartney designs once again for Adidas, this time for Spring/Summer 2009. Launched and growing since 2005, this upcoming season's line was released during London Fashion Week. McCartney comments on the line, "This collection tries to provide for all the needs of a modern woman. Style meets performance is crucial for women today, and I've tried to address this is my most recent collection. Remembering you're alive is key, health is wealth!". The team at FABRIC were lucky enough to sneak a peek at the new Stella line today at the Adidas store on Yonge and Dundas here in dowtown Toronto and it was gorgeous! The line was clearly influenced by the feminity and garment details from the Victorian era as well as equestrian detailing, and dainty influences from McCartney's lingerie line. Featuring sheer and draped materials, as well as netting, rouging, and ruffles, the line was sporty meets girly in the best way possible. These girly threads were complete with Adidas' own Climalight and Climacool technologies that wick sweat away from the body, and sporty details such as thumbholes and adjustable sporty pants. We loved the sneak preview we got at the line and can't wait to see the line when it hits stores in March. Here are some of our favourite highlights from a few of the lines we saw today:

The Golf Line featured some pretty tulip-sleeved polo shirts, and shades such as 'seed pearl', a gray meets powder pink for a touch of femme. We also loved the short and long pants in safari, navy, and white. We loved the soft and stretchy fabrics as well as the floral printed tees.
The Tennis Line featured delicate features such as rouching, gatherine, and pretty lace details for al all over cutesy but sporty look. We loved the empire fit dress with Edwardian embroidery and think there's no reason this look has to stay on the courts! Slap on some tights and boots and a cardigan and you've transitioned from court to shopping.
The Running Line was all about what Stella has become most famous for; draping and voluminous fabrics. We loved the double-layered sports tops. The long and net-detailed tanks were a highlight in our eyes, and we especially loved the neon yellow! In contrast, McCartney showed a Victorian inspired corset top for the more daring fashionista. The kelly green gradient tights were a highlight (literally!) and the option of layering these bright tights with a black short was an 80s throwback we can't get enough of!

Check out the Spring/Summer 2009 collection which hits retail in February 2009 at Holt Renfrew, Sporting Life, and Influence-U as well as the Adidas Sport Performance store at Yonge and Dundas. We dig it; can you?

Mad for Movember!

Replacing November, Movember is a charity event for prostate cancer held during the month of November each year. Unfortunately, most men lack awareness about many of the health problems they are susceptible to facing, being reluctant to go to the doctor to get regular check ups. The aim of Movember is to change the way men think about, discuss, and treat their health issues. Prostate cancer is the number one cancer threat to Canadian men; approximately 24,700 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and roughly 4,300 lives are taken from the disease every year. At the start of Movember, men register to participate in the charity event with a clean shaven face. The participants, known as Mo Bros, have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their moustache - in the processes, raising money and awareness. Partnering with the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada, all donations made during the month of Movember will go directly to the Foundation to create awareness and support research for prostate cancer. Closing the month is the the Movember Gala Parté, where Mo Bros (dressed to suit their moustache) and Mo Sistas (dressed '70s style) celebrate their month-long journey alongside celebrity Mo Mentors and Mo Ambassadors who support the campaign. At these Mo-studded events, Mo Bros face off in a runway competition for the title of Man of Movember.

FABRIC, partnering with Movember and supporting the cause, will be on the streets of Toronto snapping shots and recording videos of guys sporting their moustaches. Educate yourself, support the cause, and rock a moustache!
