Emmy Fashion - The Bad

I'm convinced Hayden Panetierre is incapable of looking 19 years old. She wore a J. Mendel gown and a gold Judith Leiber clutch. She looks like a cast member for The Real Housewives of New Jersey. She constantly dresses too old for her age and last night was no different. I also never understand why a celeb would want to wear a dress the same colour at the carpet. I love Sarah Silverman so much...and don't get me wrong she looks lovely. But I think that's the problem. It just seems odd to see her in anything but a pair of Chuck's, jeans, and a mustard stained t-shirt. I haven't found out who she's wearing yet, but she totally redeemed herself when she wore a mustache when they announced her category.
Blake Lively showed up in a Versace gown, Christian Louboutin pumps, and Lorraine Schwartz diamonds. That's all good, I have no issue with her outfit. It was her hair that landed her on this list. I wasn't feeling the long braid, it reminds me of a horse tail. And what was up with her hair while she presented? The colour looked grey and it looked like she had pulled a pair of panty hose over her hair. Last time I checked celebs don't need hair nets to attend award shows. She's not working at McDonald's.
Along with her Gossip Girl co-star, Leighton Meester didn't land on this list because of her dress. She wore a Bottega Veneta white gown with knotted shoulders, Cathy Waterman jewellery and a Bottega Veneta clutch. I took issue with her makeup. I just felt her lips and eyes were too dark. She should have went with one or the other. Also, it looked like someone misted her in the face before she presented. Her makeup made her look oily.

Emmy Fashion - The Good

For me, Januray Jones was the best dressed of the night. Considering she's shoved into corsets and control top pantyhose every day this dress is a nice departure. It has a futuristic bodace, but an old school train. It's part Betty Draper, part Jane Jetson. It's modern, fun, and the lines cut her body very nicely. The dress is Atelier Versace.
The rest are in no particular order.
Olivia Wilde showed up in Marchesa which means only one thing. Harvey Weinstein now owns her.
This is actress Lindsay Price in J. Mendel. This may be a contoversial pick, but I always appreciate someone who wears a bold colour.
Kate Walsh showed up in a greyish-white J. Mendel dress with Louis Vuitton shoes, and an Aldo clutch!!! I totally appreciate a big star walking the red carpet in something they picked up at their local mall. Kate's keepin' it real.
Drew Barrymore went the whimsical route and opted for a Monique Lhuillier princess dress. She accessorized with Anna Hu jewels, Raven Kauffman's “Drew” clutch and Casadei shoes. We somehow think that Little Edie would have showed up in something a little more daring. Christina Hendricks looking sexy in a L’wren Scott dress, Fred Leighton jewels and Prada clutch and shoes. The dress shows off her curves, but the choice of a darker colour is also flattering. Joan Holloway would approve.

Grammys "Best"

When we say “best” we want you to take that term loosely. It's all relative. In general, the Grammys were really hurting this year. None of the dresses were mind-blowing mainly because there was not a lot of star power on the carpet. Most celebs are staying undercover until Oscar night when the real fashion show begins.

Gwyneth Paltrow – She’s a legitimate star and her outfit certainly reflects that. Gwyneth was shot at wearing a Versace metallic dress and Burberry Prorsum cardigan at a Grammy after party at Katsu-Ya. She looks great. I guess her GOOP fasts and exercises are working for her.

Sheryl Crow – Sheryl Crow looks great for any age. Crow turned 47 over Grammy weekend and she certainly doesn’t look her age. The birthday girl looks stunning in a blue/purple off the shoulder dress by Maticevski.

Katy Perry – Perry wore a dress by the same designer that created Paula Abdul’s dress, so let’s not prejudge. She channelled 40’s fashion with her curled hair and dark eye shadow. Katy accentuated her conservative hair and makeup with a bubblegum pink Basil Soda gown.

Carrie Underwood – Country crooner Carrie Underwood went for what she deemed a “classic” look in a gold Zuhair Murad dress. The sparkly gold corseted dress flattered her figure and complemented her sun kissed California tan.

M.I.A - This is much better. She is the epitome of cool. She's rocking House of Holland Spring 2009.

Grammys Worst

The Grammys were held in Los Angeles last night and unlike the Golden Globes and Academy Awards, it seems as though bad fashion is not just accepted, but is encouraged. Now as a fashion magazine and blog we are more interested in clothing that is beautiful to look at and beautiful to wear, however, the Grammys are our excuse to enjoy absolutely ludicrous fashion. Also, the star power at the Grammys was seriously lacking.

Nikki Cox – We’re well aware that you can’t see her dress (don’t worry it was tacky), but we can’t decide what’s more offensive; her Cheeto coloured skin or her surgically enhanced lips/breasts? It’s a toss-up.

Paula Abdul – This outfit is how I think Paula’s mind works. She’s wearing Basil Soda if anyone cares to know.

M.I.A. – I don’t want to put her on this list because she’s way too cool for it, but wearing such a colourful and busy outfit on the day you’re due to give birth gives your belly too much attention. The outfit she wore on stage while performing Swagger Like Us looked amazing. This dress is Manish Arora Spring 2009.

Kate Beckinsale – Usually Kate Beckinsale looks great, but we’ve noticed she has a tendency to overdress on many occasions. This was one of those times. The outfit is better suited to the Oscars as opposed to the Grammys. I mean it has a train for crying out loud! The dress is by Reem Acra.
