Sean Connery only gets better with age!

Looks like Bond has proven once again that he is timeless! Silver screen hero Sean Connery is the new face of Louis Vuitton. Annie Leibovitz has snapped yet another winning story featuring this once-upon-a-time James Bond as part of the LV "Core Values" campaign for Fall 2008. These ads couldn't have come at a better time considering the Bond hype that's about to hit the box office with the October release of Quantum of Solace.
Joining past famous faces of LV ads such as Francis Ford Coppola, Mikhail Gorbachev, and Keith Richards, the photo features the 78 year old Scotsman on a dock near his home in the Bahamas. The caption on the photo reads, "There are journeys that turn into legends". Legendary indeed, we think Connery couldn't look better! Perhaps he has some skincare secrets to share...

Jumping for Lacoste

Canadian film and superstar Hayden Christensen just shot a commercial for Lacoste Cologne. The commercial was shot last week in Los Angeles and is set to air on French television once completed. The commercial is based on the recent success of Christensen’s box office hit Jumper, and fits perfectly into the fantastic signature Lacoste weightless art direction. Lacoste's decision to target Hayden and his demographic is a clever move as Christensen tends to appeal to such a large audience.

Seymour for Hermes

We at FABRIC love a supermodel throwback! Stephanie Seymour, infamous '90s catwalk queen, marched down the runway for Hermes' Spring/Summer 09 show during Paris Fashion Week. This 40 year old mother of 4 could not have looked any better! Commenting on Jean Paul Gauthier's latest designs, Seymour said, "Jean Paul loves women and dresses us in a feminine and very sensual way. I thought it was like Pocahontas chic". This effort from Hermes also shows another throwback - to the equestrian roots that started the fashion label. We at FABRIC love the floppy brown suede hats Hermes is showing for next Spring/Summer!

Notably, Naomi Campbell also took the Hermes runway by storm for the launch of their 'Cowboy Chic' design concept. These ladies showed the crowd some classic '90s attitude and looked nothing short of fierce. We're loving the new Hermes direction and can't wait to see what else is in store for Spring/Summer 2009! So, what's that you say about old dogs learning new tricks? (We kid!).

Coming Soon: Fox Canada

It seems like so many brands are targeting us Canadians this season, and we can't complain! Israeli brand Fox is set to open three stores here in the Great White North. The brand, catering to men, women, and children has had a very successful history with stores in over 10 other countries. Fox started in 1992 by Harel Wiesel as a T-shirt shop in Israel, and has become a favourite among those who love relatively cheap and chic clothing; FABRIC's take on Fox is that it will fit somewhere in the H&M/Gap range of retailers in the North American scene. The brand will be opening locations at Fairview Mall (Toronto), Bramalea City Centre (Brampton) and Vaughn Mills (Vaughn). Check it out!

In Loving Memory

It is with heavy hearts and sincere sorrow that we report today the passing of a Canadian photographer in the fashion industry. Our friend, Hamish Kippen, passed away yesterday, October 20th, 2008. To honour this creative soul and report on this untimely, tragic passing, we remember Hamish for all that he brought to the lives around him. Hamish’s life was a work of art; he was a delight to work with and an honour to know. We remember an energetic, creative young man whose innovative and striking photography touched our lives in the most profound way. Although Hamish worked from behind a lens, his warmth and presence was always made known through his animated and charismatic personality. Those who were a part of Hamish’s life can all agree that although we knew him for too short a time, we felt enveloped by the warmth and spirit of his inspired presence.

This tragedy has shaken the Canadian fashion industry and our thoughts are with Hamish’s friends, family, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. As Fashion Week continues we strive to remember the fragility of life and how precious and important it is to celebrate each others’ lives through our works of art. The vibrant masterpieces Hamish left us serve as an everlasting mark on this world. Hamish, we were truly blessed to know you.

Fashion Parties!

We at FABRIC Magazine absolutely adore L'oreal Fashion Week! We hope you've taken some time to check out our Runway Reports; as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words and we are doing our best to do these beautiful designs justice. We are having a ball at Fashion week and are so lucky to be working with some very talented stylists and team members from FABRIC alike to give you full coverage of Spring/Summer 2009!

Some of the things we love most about Fashion Week are the after parties! What better way to relax, schmooze, and celebrate beautiful clothing than to kick back with Toronto's most vibrant fashionistas in the hottest spots in the city? Last night the FABRIC team was at Toronto's trendy Drake Hotel to kick off Fashion Week with a bang. This bash was in celebration of Katya Revenko's 'Desperately Different' line, sponsored by Samsung for their CLEO phone launching in November. Cake gave away a gift bag to one lucky attendee; check out what they have to offer at www.cakebeauty.com

The party was great and good times were had by all. Check out the pictures below and see what a rocking time we had. See you at the shows, and don't forget your camera!

Sandro Says Go Short!

As we reported last week, Pop Hair had their grand opening in downtown Toronto and we were there to take an exclusive sneak peek! We are lucky enough to have a blog today by an exciting guest writer, Sandro Z. Zamparini, Artistic Director of Pop Hair and Ro Z. He says:

The end of the Victoria Beckham bob has befallen us, so where do we go from here? Cut it short, with a ton of texture, and be freed from that flat iron. Short hair is the latest craze coming out of Europe, but keep it feminine to show off those dazzling earrings! If you cannot part with your long locks, don't be shy about layering and cutting texture to creative movement and volume this time of year. I'm in love with Sebastian Reshaper Hair Spray by Wella for controlling your style in that Toronto wind without leaving your hair sticky.

Stay tuned for more of Sandro's expert advice on Winter colours for your locks!
